New South Wales Dodgeball League

Season 2026

Schools and teachers

Build the team every kid can see themselves in.

Dodgeball gives schools more than the casual PE version students already know. It can become a real school program: inclusive, competitive, and built for students who do not always connect with traditional sport.

Official competitive dodgeball uses soft foam balls, so it feels very different from the harder version many adults picture. It is one of the easiest sports for complete beginners to pick up, with plenty of room to grow into something deeper.

Soft foam balls

A softer, safer feel for school sessions.

Easy to start

Most students can join in from the first session.

Can grow with your school

Start simply, then build toward teams and competition.

Built for different kids

One sport. Many playstyles.

Different students can find a real advantage in the same team.

Agile students can dodge

Quick feet and timing can change points.

Strong hands can throw and catch

Control, catching, and clean release all matter.

Fast students can pressure play

Pace helps teams attack space and shift momentum.

Strategic students can organise the team

They can call plays and help the team adjust to opponents quickly.

Dodgeball stands out because students can start with their own strengths, then grow into a sport where teamwork, backing each other, and bravery really matter.

Simple first steps.

01

Start where students already are

A PE block, lunchtime trial, or one-off session is enough to spot interest.

Find your first squad

Look for different strengths, not one athlete profile.

A court or open hard surface

A volleyball court is ideal, but any safe space can work to get started.

Simple markers and bibs

Cones, line markings, and bibs usually cover the basics.

Indoor usually works best

Indoor makes ball retrieval easier, but fenced outdoor spaces can work too.
